Exploring Theory, Enhancing Practice: Autonomy across the Disciplines

Guidelines for Presenters

Call for Proposals

The conference organisers invite proposals for papers and posters in the following areas:

  • Autonomy across the disciplines
  • Autonomy and the classroom
  • Autonomy and innovation in self-access learning
  • Autonomy and computer-assisted language learning
  • Autonomy and assessment
  • Autonomy and child language learning
  • Autonomy and teacher education
  • Autonomy and distance education

Type of Presentations

Participants are invited to submit abstracts of papers or posters to the conference Programme Committee.

Papers

Papers are invited on any of the themes listed above. Paper presenters are asked to restrict their presentations to 30 minutes; 10 minutes will be allocated for questions after the presenter has finished talking. Each session will therefore have a total duration of 40 minutes. Time limits will be strictly enforced.

Posters

Posters are invited on any of the themes listed above. Posters may be any size up to a maximum of A1 (594mm x 840mm) or equivalent made up of separate sheets. Electronic versions of each poster accepted may be posted on the ILA website for 12 months following the conference. Presenters of posters and papers will receive identical acceptance letters, thereby facilitating sponsorship from employers.

Abstracts

Abstracts should be 150-200 words in length, include a title not exceeding 10 words and mention the area (see list above) into which the paper falls. Proposals should be submitted on the online submission form no later than January 30, 2007. Participants proposing posters should indicate the topic area and the likely structure of the poster.

Abstracts of all presentations accepted by the Programme Committee will appear in the Conference Programme.

Selection Process

All those submitting proposals to the Conference Programme Committee will be informed by April 02, 2007 whether their proposals have been accepted.

Criteria for Acceptance

All abstracts will be evaluated by the Conference Programme Committee. Relevance to the themes of the conference and originality of approach are key considerations in the acceptance of papers and posters. The Committee reserves the right to decline paper/poster proposals without assigning reasons.

Equipment

Cassette players, video replay equipment, Overhead Projectors, laptops and data projectors can be arranged if booked on the proposal form. Please request equipment when registering for the conference (Presenters’ deadline: June 30, 2007) in order to enable the organisers to allocate sessions to relevant session rooms.

Key Dates

  • Closing date for receipt of abstracts is January 30, 2007.
  • Proposers will be informed whether their proposal has been accepted by April, 02, 2007.
  • All presenters must register and pay for the conference by June 30, 2007.
